Ingredients

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 4 - whole pears
  • 1/2 cup fresh raspberries
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest

How To Make diabetic-friendly perfectly poached pears

  • Step 1
    In a small bowl, mix together orange juice, apple juice, ground cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Step 2
    Stir ingredients until evenly mixed and set aside.
  • Step 3
    Peel pears, leaving the stems.
  • Step 4
    Remove the core from the bottom of the pear.
  • Step 5
    Place pears in a shallow sauce pan.
  • Step 6
    Pour juice mixture over pears into pan and set over medium-heat.
  • Step 7
    Simmer pears for 30 minutes, turning frequently.
  • Step 8
    DO NOT BRING LIQUID TO A BOIL!
  • Step 9
    Transfer pears to individual serving plates.
  • Step 10
    Garnish plates with raspberries and orange zest.
  • Step 11
