  • 3 c
    cranberries, fresh
  • 1 pkg
    (8 oz) pkg dates, chopped
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 c
    flour (all purpose)
  • 2 c
  • 1 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    butter, melted

  • 2 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbsp
    orange juice

How to Make Cranberry Date Bars


  1. In a medium saucepan combine cranberries and dates.
    Cook, covered, over low heat for 10-15 minutes.
    Stir in vanilla. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl stir together flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
    Stir in margarine or butter until well blended.
    Pat half of oatmeal mixture on the bottom of a 9x13x2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes.
  3. Carefully spread filling over baked oatmeal mixture. Sprinkle remaining oatmeal mixture on top. Pat gently. Bake for 20 to 22 minutes.
  4. Cool on wire rack. In a mixing bowl, stir together the powdered sugar, vanilla, and orange juice to a drizzling consistency.
    Drizzle with the Orange Glaze: cut into bars.
    Makes 32 bars.
