Ingredients

  • 1 can red sour pitted cherries
  • 1.5 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • TOPPING INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup quick cooking oats
  • 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

How To Make cherry crisp

  • Step 1
    Drain cherries, reserving 3/4 cup juice.
  • Step 2
    Combine small amount of juice, cornstarch and sugar in saucepan.
  • Step 3
    Stir in remaining juice.
  • Step 4
    Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly until thickened and clear.
  • Step 5
    Remove from heat.
  • Step 6
    Add cherries and extract.
  • Step 7
    Spread in 8-inch pan.
  • Step 8
    Topping: Preheat oven to 375.
  • Step 9
    Mix oats and walnuts in small bowl.
  • Step 10
    Add margarine; mix well with fork--mixture will be crumbly.
  • Step 11
    Sprinkle topping over cherries.
  • Step 12
    Bake for 20 minutes or until topping is browned.
  • Step 13
    Serve warm or chilled.
