I took an old recipe of my Grams and updated it. She made this dessert a lot for holiday get togethers. I doubled the cherries and doubled the cool whip, by adding an extra layer to the top. Everyone loved my changes. The tartness of the cherries is perfect with the sweet crust. This is a wonderful dessert for patriotic holidays.
