This is the perfect treat to use those less-than-stellar apples, you know the ones-- slightly bruised, a little on the small side, a bit too ugly for the picky eater. The caramel bubbles up and makes the topping gloriously crisp, and your whole house will smell divine!

Ingredients

  • 5 medium apples
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamon, ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup caramel ice cream topping
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup oats, old-fashioned
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter

How To Make caramel apple crisp

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray an 8x8 or similar sized baking dish with nonstick spray (or butter lightly.)
  • Step 2
Peel, core, and dice the apples; place in a mixing bowl.
  • Step 3
Add granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and salt to apples in bowl; stir well.
  • Step 4
Add caramel sauce to apple mixture, stirring well. Pour mixture into prepared dish.
  • Step 5
In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar, oats, flour, and cold butter. Use fingers or two forks to incorporate butter into mixture and small clumps form. Spread over apple mixture in dish.
  • Best served warm with vanilla ice cream. Mmmmmm...
    Step 6
Bake @ 350°F for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream or a splash of cold cream.
