I made these when I went camping with my family in Europe (the pie irons were easy to pack into the van, and it was a special treat for setting up the camp site) and as a Brownie Girl Scout. We always had the typical cherry, blueberry or apple as options back then. Now that there are so many other flavors available, I have found that I really enjoy a blackberry or peach campfire pie. Or my new favorite? A smear of key lime pie filling on one piece of bread with a plastic spoonful of strawberry pie filling on top. And as I learned recently, peanut butter and jelly isn't too bad either!

white bread
pie fillings of choice (see note in directions)
powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar to coat warm pie

How to Make Campfire Pies

  • 1Butter the outsides of the bread and put butter down into a pie iron top and bottom piece. Add the pie fillings of your choice. Close pie iron and toast. When still warm, sprinkle with either powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar if desired.
  • 2Tortoise's (That's me) Note: I have even made this with peanut butter and jelly!
