Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled, sliced apples
  • 1 cup water, divided
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 - 3/4 cups packed brown sugar ( i used 3/4 cup as i used tart apples )
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/2 - 3/4 cups coarsley chopped walnuts

How To Make apple / walnut casserole

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Put sliced apples into a 2 - 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  • Step 2
Mix 3/4 cup water, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and salt in a saucepan and heat (medium heat) until butter melts. ( I used 3/4 cup brown sugar as I used Granny Smith apples).
  • Step 3
Mix cornstarch with 1/4 cup water and stir until smooth. Stir this gradually into the sugar mixture and bring to a boil.
  • Step 4
Remove from heat and pour over the apples.
  • Step 5
Stir in walnuts, cover and bake until apples are soft, about 45 minutes. Time may vary, depending on variety of apples used.
  • Step 6
Serve warm, room temperature or cold. Delicious topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
