Was making shrimp tempura for dinner...no desert! Tweaked my tempura recipe for apples and the rest is history! If you are not comfortable with the cayenne....leave it out. I find it gives just the right amount ZING!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium
    apples
  • 1 c
    sugar cinnamon mixture
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    cayenne pepper......... trust me on this ingredient
  • 1 large
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    apple cider
  • 1/2 c
    club soda
  • 1 c
    flour

How to Make Apple Tempura

Step-by-Step

  1. Core apples and thinly slice.
  2. Whisk flour, 1/2 tsp. salt, and cayenne.
  3. Beat egg with 1/2 cup of cider & 1/2 cup of club soda; add to dry ingredients until just combined; refrigerate.
  4. Pour 3 inches of canola oil into deep skillet or saucepan over med.- high heat. Make sure it's good and hot!
  5. Dip slices into batter and fry until golden. Drain on paper towels; top with sugar cinnamon mixture. You an use powdered sugar in place of sugar cinnamon mixture.
