This recipe always takes me back to good childhood memories. My mom would pack these when we went camping.

Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup crisco shortening
- 1 - egg, separated
- 1/2 cup milk
- 5 cups granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- - butter, dotted
- - powdered sugar frosting
How To Make apple slice

Step 1Sift four and salt. Cut in shortening with pastry cutter until course crumbs.

Step 2Combine egg yolk and milk. Add to flour mixture and blend with fork to form dough.

Step 3Pat 1/2 of dough in bottom of 9 X 13 baking pan.

Step 4Cover with sliced apples.

Step 5Combine 2 Tablespoons flour and sugar. Sprinkle over apples. Dot with butter.

Step 6Roll remaining dough to the shape of the pan (9 X 13). Place rolled dough over apples.

Step 7Brush top of dough with egg white. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool.

Step 8Spread thin coat of powdered sugar frosting on top of cooled bars. Slice into squares.
