This is a recipe from a cook named Michellem. I tried this and loved it! If you like french toast and you like apple pie, you'll love this! I added my photo!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups apples-peeled and diced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 tbls. sugar-divided
  • 5 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice, fresh
  • 12 slices white bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • - confectioners' sugar-for dusting

How To Make apple pie sandwiches

  • Step 1
    In a saucepan, cook apples and water over medium heat for about 10 min. or until apples are tender.
  • Step 2
    Combine 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg;stir into apple mixture.
  • Step 3
    Bring to a boil;cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
  • Step 4
    Remove from heat; stir in lemon juice.
  • Step 5
    Spread six slices of bread with 1/3 cup filling each;top with remaining bread.
  • Step 6
    In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs, milk, vanilla and remaining sugar.
  • Step 7
    Dip sandwiches in egg mixture in egg mixture.
  • Step 8
    Cook on a lightly greased hot griddle until golden brown on both sides.
  • Step 9
    Dust with confectioners sugar if desired.
  • Step 10
    Smother with maple syrup if desired!
