Very quick and easy.....I adapted another recipe to make (4) servings....

prep time
cook time 35 Min
method Bake
yield 4 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 - apples, granny smith (not delicious)
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening (lard)
  • + - butter (optional for richer dough)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons water (ice cold)
  • - cinnamon-sugar-nutmeg mixture

How To Make apple dumplins

  • Step 1
Make syrup, using sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter...bring to a boil for about a minute, set aside.
  • Step 2
Pare and core apples, cut as to your choice.
  • Step 3
Prepare crust: Mix flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in shortening. Add water... or... use 1 crust recipe for your favorite recipe.
  • Step 4
Roll 1/4" thick (I made 4 dumplins). Arrange apples on each crust, sprinkle generously w/ additional sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Dot w/ butter. Fold diagonal corners to center. Pinch edges together. Place 1" apart in greased baking pan.
  • Step 5
Pour syrup over it. Bake at 375 for 35 minutes. Watch closely.....The syrup can get VERY thick....
  • Step 6
    Serve hot w/ ice cream.....Enjoy!!!
