pastry for 2 pie crusts
apples, peeled and cored


1 c
granulated sugar
2 c
3 Tbsp
butter, softened
1/4 tsp
1/4 tsp


1/2 c
granulated sugar
1.5 tsp
1.5 tsp
2 Tbsp
vanilla ice cream

How to Make Apple Dumpling


  • 1Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees.
  • 2Roll pastry slightly less than 1/8" thick.
  • 3Cut into seven inch squares.
  • 4Bring syrup ingredients to boil.
  • 5Boil 3 minutes.
  • 6Put apple on center of each pastry square.
  • 7Fill with mixture of sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • 8Dot each with teaspoon of butter.
  • 9Bring points of pastry up over apple and overlap.
  • 10Place in a baking pan separated slightly and pour one cup of the hot syrup mixture around dumplings.
  • 11Bake at 425 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • 12Just before serving pour rest of warm syrup over dumplings and serve with the ice cream.
  • 13Variation: Peach Dumplings: use 3 large peaches, peeled and pitted (in place of apples).
  • 14Put peach half on center of each square and proceed as for apple dumplings above.
