Ingredients
- 5 - slices of country white or any other bread cut into 3/4" pcs.
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup sugar, divided
- 6 tablespoons apple cider, divided
- 5 - granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 3/4" pcs. approx. 2 1/2 lbs.
- 3/4 cup chopped dates prefer medjool (can use raisins as alternative)
- 4 teaspoons all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground all spice
- - heavy cream, for serving or whipped topping
How To Make apple date betty

Step 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Scatter bread on a baking sheet until dry and light browned to resemble croutons. Approx 12 mins. Toss halfway through baking.

Step 2Crush half the bread to make crumbs. In a large bowl combine butter, 1/4 c. sugar. 3 Tbl. cider. Then add bread cubes and crumbs.

Step 3Combine apples, dates, flour, lemon juice, salt allspice, and remaining 1/2 c. sugar and 3 Tbl. cider. Stir in 1/2 c. bread mixture.

Step 4Transfer to an 8" square baking dish top with remaining bread mixture. Cover with foil and bake 40-55 mins. ovens vary. Uncover then bake until top is golden approx. 15 mins.

Step 5To serve top with heavy cream in bowls, or can use a whipped topping or ice cream.
