A deliciously easy Apple Crumble with chunks of tart apples combined with cinnamon and nutmeg and topped with a crisp brown sugar and cinnamon oat topping. This recipe brings all the delicious flavors of fall together in one scrumptious dessert dish with just the right balance of spices. For a little piece of heaven serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and homemade caramel sauce.

Ingredients For apple crumble

  • APPLE FILLING
  • 8 lg
    crisp tart apples like granny smith or honey crisp (peeled, cored, and cubed)
  • ½ c
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • CRUMNLE FILLING
  • 1 c
    old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup
    brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 c
    unsalted butter melted

How To Make apple crumble

    Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish or equivalent.

    First in a large bowl combine the apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir gently to combine and then spoon the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish in an even layer.

    In a medium bowl stir together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Slowly stir in the melted butter with a fork until crumbly. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples.

    Bake in a preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. If the mixture browns too fast simply cover with a loose piece of aluminum foil. Let the dish sit for 15-20 minutes before serving.
