mum's apple crisp

I'm not a big fan of cooked apple, but I ate this whenever Mum made it.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium tart cooking apples, sliced (4 cups) (granny smith, northern spy, mcintosh)
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup quick cooking oats (or old fashioned oats)
  • 1/3 cup butter (or margarine) softened
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream (optional)

How To Make mum's apple crisp

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 375ºF. Grease bottom and sides of square pan, 8x8x2 (or 2 qt. casserole). Arrange apples in pan.
  • Step 2
    Mix remaining ingredients except ice-cream. Sprinkle over apples.
  • Step 3
    Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender. Serve warm with ice-cream
