  • 2/3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 c
    apple butter
  • 1/2 c
    dark brown sugar
  • 1 large
    egg
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp
    warm water
  • 1 c
    rolled oats
  • 1 c
    flaked coconut

How to Make Apple Butter-Oatmeal Bars

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 X 13 inch pan. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt. In a large bowl, cream the vegetable shortening, apple butter, and brown sugar. Beat in the egg.
  2. Dissolve the baking soda in the warm water and add to the creamed mixture, beating until smooth. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. fold in the oats and coconut.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool completely before cutting.
