Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon warm water
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup flaked coconut

How To Make apple butter-oatmeal bars

  • Step 1
    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 X 13 inch pan. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt. In a large bowl, cream the vegetable shortening, apple butter, and brown sugar. Beat in the egg.
  • Step 2
    Dissolve the baking soda in the warm water and add to the creamed mixture, beating until smooth. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. fold in the oats and coconut.
  • Step 3
    Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool completely before cutting.
