I've been making this recipe since my family went apple picking in Warwick, New York about 35 years ago. Thought I'd share it with everyone.

prep time 20 Min
cook time 45 Min
method Bake
yield 8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sliced peeled apples
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • - whipped cream or ice cream (optional)

How To Make apple betty

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mound apples in a 9" pie plate, sprinkle with orange juice.
  • Step 2
For topping combine sugar, flour and spices. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly; then scatter over apples.
  • Step 3
Bake at 375 for 45 minutes, or until apples are done and topping is golden and crisp. Serve warm or at room temperature. It's really good with ice cream or whipped cream.
