For my entire childhood I had no idea that rice pudding could be made creamy in a saucepan. This is the recipe I grew up with.

Ingredients For great grandmother's baked rice pudding

How To Make great grandmother's baked rice pudding
Cook rice in 3 qt. saucepan as you normally would.
(Bring rice to boil then reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes)
Combine cooked rice with all other ingredients except cinnamon.
In a 10X6X2 baking dish which has been greased with butter (or margarine).
Bake pudding in 325 degree oven for 1 hour or until set. Sprinkle with cinnamon on the top, if desired.
