I have made this recipe for hundreds of people over the years and it is always raved about. Best served warm. My husband's favorite. I can't keep it long enough to take a picture!

  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch - salt

  • ORANGE GLAZE SAUCE
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Pinch - nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

How To Make bread and butter pudding

  • Step 1
Melt butter in 13"x9" pan in oven while heating to 350 degrees.
  • Step 2
Toast bread to medium/dark. And break toast into pieces, placing it in pan with melted butter.
  • Step 3
In large bowl, mix eggs, sugar, salt, nutmeg, vanilla and milk. Add to bread and butter.
  • Step 4
Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes or until set in center.
  • Step 5
While baking, bring orange juice to boil. Mix sugar with corn starch using whisk. Add this to boiling orange juice, stirring well. Reduce heat and cover. Simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add nutmeg, lemon juice, butter and salt(if desired).
  • Step 6
Pour sauce over pudding when removed from oven. Allow to cool some and enjoy. That is, if you can keep the family away long enough for it to cool!
