I have made this recipe for hundreds of people over the years and it is always raved about. Best served warm. My husband's favorite. I can't keep it long enough to take a picture!

Ingredients

8-10 slice
bread, toasted medium to dark
1 c
butter, melted
4
eggs
4 c
milk
2 c
sugar
1/2 tsp
nutmeg
Pinch
salt
2 tsp
vanilla

ORANGE GLAZE SAUCE

1 c
orange juice
3 Tbsp
lemon juice
Pinch
nutmeg
2 Tbsp
butter
1/2 c
sugar
1 Tbsp
cornstarch

How to Make Bread and Butter Pudding

Step-by-Step

  • 1Melt butter in 13"x9" pan in oven while heating to 350 degrees.
  • 2Toast bread to medium/dark. And break toast into pieces, placing it in pan with melted butter.
  • 3In large bowl, mix eggs, sugar, salt, nutmeg, vanilla and milk. Add to bread and butter.
  • 4Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes or until set in center.
  • 5While baking, bring orange juice to boil. Mix sugar with corn starch using whisk. Add this to boiling orange juice, stirring well. Reduce heat and cover. Simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add nutmeg, lemon juice, butter and salt(if desired).
  • 6Pour sauce over pudding when removed from oven. Allow to cool some and enjoy. That is, if you can keep the family away long enough for it to cool!
