You won't believe how delicious, easy, and inexpensive this dessert is! My Mom, Doris St. John got it from a newspaper many years ago. She has passed away, but along with many more great recipes she gave me, she left this this most excellent one.

Ingredients

  • 3 - egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup walnuts (chopped)
  • 16 - finely crushed saltine crackers
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • Step 1
    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step 2
    2. Beat egg whites and vanilla until foamy.
  • Step 3
    3. Gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating to stiff peaks.
  • Step 4
    4. Mix together nuts, crackers and baking powder.
  • Step 5
    5. Fold into egg whites.
  • Step 6
    6. Spread into greased 9 inch pie plate.
  • Step 7
    7. Bake about 40 minutes or until dry on outside.
  • Step 8
    Slice like a pie. Serve warm or let cool.
  • Step 9
    Delicious on its own, but may top with strawberries or other fruit and whipped cream. Enjoy!
