Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 cups self rising flour, sifted
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 cups blackberries
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup butter

How To Make blackberry cobbler

  • Step 1
    In a bowl cut half of the shortening into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
  • Step 2
    Cut in the remaining shortening until the particles resemble large peas.
  • Step 3
    Sprinkle with water and stir with a fork.
  • Step 4
    Shape into a ball and wrap in waxed paper.
  • Step 5
    Let the dough rest.
  • Step 6
    Reserve 2 tablespoons of sugar for the topping and combine the remaining sugar and cornstarch thoroughly.
  • Step 7
    Add the fruit and lemon juice.
  • Step 8
    Divide the dough in half and roll out in sections to fit a 2-quart dish, lining the bottom and sides.
  • Step 9
    Pour the blackberries into the pastry lined dish.
  • Step 10
    Dot with butter, reserving 2 tablespoons for the top.
  • Step 11
    Bring the pastry over the fruit and dot with the remaining sugar and butter.
  • Step 12
    Bake at 375F for 55 minutes.
