Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup applesauce, chunky
  • 3 1/2 cups peeled, sliced apples (4 large or 6 small)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 scant tablespoons flour
  • 1 scant tablespoon corn starch
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (or more to taste)
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 teaspoon butter or margarine
  • - milk, sugar for topping

How To Make apple pie

  • Step 1
    Mix applesauce, sugar and lemon juice in a large bowl.
  • Step 2
    Slice apples and stir into sugar mix as you go to keep them from browning.
  • Step 3
    Stir in flour, corn starch, cinnamon and salt.
  • Step 4
    Turn into pie crust and dot with butter.
  • Step 5
    Top with crust and pinch edges.
  • Step 6
    Brush top with thin coating of milk and sprinkle with sugar. Cut slits.
  • Step 7
    Bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for an additional 55 - 60 more minutes, until brown.
