I once had chocolate eggnog from the store, but I could never find it again. I often thought of that eggnog around Christmastime. This year, I took matters into my own hands. I whipped up a fresh batch and opted for dark chocolate.

This one is even better than the store bought. I used organic ingredients, but it isn't necessary. Pinch this recipe, and I guarantee a new family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 12
    egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp
    freshly grated nutmeg
  • 3 1/2 c
    whole milk
  • 2 1/2 c
    heavy cream
  • 1/2 c
    whole milk
  • 1/2 c
    dark chocolate chips
  • 1 Tbsp
    dark chocolate cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 c
    rum, optional
  • 1/2 c
    brandy, optional

How to Make Cuisiniere Bannworth's Dark Chocolate Eggnog

Step-by-Step

  1. In a saucepan, heat vanilla, 1/2 c milk, cocoa powder, and chocolate chips on low. Whisk continually until chocolate is totally melted and combined. Set aside to cool.
  2. Take 12 yolks and add sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Beat until creamy.
  3. Add milk, cream, and vanilla. Continue to beat for 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in cooled chocolate mixture.
  5. Optionally add rum and brandy. Tailor to your taste.
  6. Chill before serving.
