How to Make Basic Buttercream

Step-by-Step

  1. Place the butter in a stand mixer and let it beat for 2-3 minutes on medium speed.
  2. Add flavorings, such as extracts or cocoa,and beat again.
  3. Slowly add powdered sugar until the buttercream reaches the desired consistency.
  4. If it becomes too thick, add a little milk to thin it out.
