This is so easy to make, it's just sliced oranges is a syrup. It's exotic flavor comes from being marinated in cinnamon orange-flower syrup. If you can get a mix of orange varieties it will add color interest. Start to serve time is about 2:30 hrs but it's mostly chill time.

How to Make North African Oranges in Sweet Syrup

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a medium saucepan, combine the orange juice with the sugar, cinnamon, and the finely grated orange zest and bring to a boil, stirring, until the sugar is dissolved.

Let cool to room temperature, then stir in the orange-flower water.
  • 2Meanwhile, using a sharp knife, peel the oranges, removing all of the bitter white pith. Cut the oranges crosswise 1/3 inch thick and transfer to a large, shallow serving bowl.
  • 3Remove the cinnamon stick and pour the syrup over the oranges and refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours. Garnish with the orange-zest strips and serve cold.
