maple walnut cookie bars

This recipe was created from an old recipe. I added nuts to the crust. I also added maple syrup and butter to the filling. I topped it off with a white chocolate maple drizzle. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • COOKIE CRUST
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/3 cup ground walnuts
  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • FILLING
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • VANILLA MAPLE DRIZZLE
  • - white chocolate chips
  • - real maple syrup

How To Make maple walnut cookie bars

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350 degree's. Combine all ingredients for the cookie. It's easier to use your hands. Combine well. Press dough in to an 8 inch square parchment lined pan. You can use foil if you grease it well.
  • Step 2
    Bake at 350 until edges are slightly browned. Remove from oven and set aside.
  • Step 3
    Make the filling. In a sauce pan. Combine all ingredients together except for the nuts,and vanilla. Stir and cook over high heat until boiling. Reduce heat to medium high.Stir until the mixture gets thickened. This should take about 7-10 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Add the vanilla and nuts. Pour on top of cookie crust. Spread mixture evenly on top. Place back in oven and bake about 20-30 minutes. The filling will look thick and browned nicely.
  • Step 5
    Remove from oven and cool. Cut in to squares. Serve alone,or with ice cream on top.
