peanut butter cookies
This recipe comes from the 1941 edition of the New American Cook Book. It makes a moist, chewy peanut butter cookie. In the picture, I garnished with a dusting of white granulated sugar and a Hershey (Special Dark) Kiss.

Ingredients
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup milk
How To Make peanut butter cookies

Step 1Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.

Step 2Cream shortening and peanut butter. Beat in other ingredients.

Step 3Stir in flour, blending well. Chill. Roll out onto 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutter. (I roll mine into balls and press a criss-cross pattern into them with a fork)

Step 4Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in oven at 350 for 10 minutes. Yield 40 cookies.

Step 5Garnish with a Hershey kiss or chopped nuts or granulated sugar.
