orange slice cookies
This was my great aunt Merline's recipe. My kids love these cookies at Christmas time.

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 - eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups quick cooking rolled oats
- 2 cups (12 oz.) candy orange slices
- 1 cup flaked coconut
How To Make orange slice cookies

Step 1Cut orange slices into pieces. The easiest way is to snip them with kitchen shears.

Step 2In a large mixer bowl, cream together sugar, brown sugar and shortening until until fluffy.

Step 3Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.

Step 4Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Step 5Stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture mixing well.

Step 6stir in candy and coconut.

Step 7Using about 1 Tbsp. mixture for each, roll into 1 inch balls.

Step 8Place the balls on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Step 9Remove from sheet and cool on a wire rack.
