This was my great aunt Merline's recipe. My kids love these cookies at Christmas time.

packed brown sugar
1 tsp
2 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
2 c
quick cooking rolled oats
2 c
(12 oz.) candy orange slices
1 c
flaked coconut

How to Make Orange Slice Cookies


  • 1Cut orange slices into pieces. The easiest way is to snip them with kitchen shears.
  • 2In a large mixer bowl, cream together sugar, brown sugar and shortening until until fluffy.
  • 3Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.
  • 4Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • 5Stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture mixing well.
  • 6stir in candy and coconut.
  • 7Using about 1 Tbsp. mixture for each, roll into 1 inch balls.
  • 8Place the balls on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • 9Remove from sheet and cool on a wire rack.
