One of my very favorite cookies, in my opinion get better by the day. Just in time for Santa.

Ingredients

1 c
shortening
2
eggs
2 c
sugar
4 1/2 c
flour
2 tsp
salt
1 tsp
each - baking soda & baking powder
1 c
soured milk
juice
of one orange
grated
rind of two oranges

FROSTING

3 3/4 c
confectioners' sugar
1 Tbsp
softened, butter
1
orange, juiced and rind grated - add more juice if needed to get desired spreading consistency

How to Make ~ Orange Drop Cookies ~

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 400 degree F.

    In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening, eggs and sugar.
  • 2Combine flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder.
  • 3Mix in the dry ingredients, with the wet mixture, alternating with the sour milk. Ending with flour.

    Stir in the rind and juice.
  • 4Drop by teaspoonful on a lightly greased baking sheet.

    Bake for 8 - 10 minutes or until beginning to color on edges.
  • 5Remove from sheet pan to cooling racks.
  • 6Cool completely and then frost.

    Frosting:

    In a medium bowl, combine frosting ingredients, mix well, and add more juice if need be...you want it to be thicker though, not a glaze.
