Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1-1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1-1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 cup butterscotch chips or mini chocolate chips

Step 1In a saucepan, over very gentle heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together and cook until the sugar dissolves, between 5-8 minutes. Let cool.

Step 2In a mixing bowl, stir together cooled sugar/butter mixture and add egg, blending well. Stir in flour, baking powder, salt, nuts, butterscotch or chocolate chips. Spread batter evenly, using a wet knife or spatula, into a greased and floured 9 X 13 inch pan.

Step 3Bake at 350 degrees for 22 to 27 minutes. Do not over bake. Squares will seem set, but might be slightly jiggly. Cool in refrigerator after they have cooled on the counter for about half an hour. Cut in pan.
