    packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 1/3 c
    molasses
  • 2 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp
    ground allspice
  • 1 1/2 c
    raisins
  • sugar
  • 1
    egg

How To Make new england raisin spice cookies

    Beat brown sugar, shortening, and butter in large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy. Add molasses and egg; beat until blended. Combine four, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and allspice in medium bowl. Stir in raisins. Gradually add shortening mixture, stirring just until blended. Cover; refrigerate at least 2 hours.

    Preheat oven to 350. Shape dough by heaping tablespoonfuls into balls. Roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on cookie sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
