This is a recipe brought from Switzerland by my Grandmother and made by all her sisters as well. To me, it can't be Christmas without Grandmother's Lebkuchen so I usually bake it first. It gets better with age.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup candied citron, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/3 cup honey, warmed
  • 3 cups flour

How To Make lebkuchen

  • Step 1
    Beat brown sugar & eggs for five minutes in bowl of electric mixer
  • Step 2
    Disolve soda in hot honey and add to brown sugar mix
  • Step 3
    Add spices to flour and add to brown sugar mix. Then fruit and nuts.
  • Step 4
    Mixture will be thick. Pour into jelly roll pan and bake in 325* oven for 25 - 30 minutes.
  • Step 5
    When cool, frost with a powdered sugar glaze.
