This is a recipe brought from Switzerland by my Grandmother and made by all her sisters as well. To me, it can't be Christmas without Grandmother's Lebkuchen so I usually bake it first. It gets better with age.

brown sugar, firmly packed

walnuts, chopped
1/2 c
candied citron, chopped
1/2 tsp
ground cloves
2 tsp
1 tsp
1/3 c
honey, warmed
3 c

How to Make Lebkuchen


  • 1Beat brown sugar & eggs for five minutes in bowl of electric mixer
  • 2Disolve soda in hot honey and add to brown sugar mix
  • 3Add spices to flour and add to brown sugar mix. Then fruit and nuts.
  • 4Mixture will be thick. Pour into jelly roll pan and bake in 325* oven for 25 - 30 minutes.
  • 5When cool, frost with a powdered sugar glaze.
