When I was working at the Child Development Center at Mountain Home AFB, ID, there was a woman who worked there named Gidget. She was an awesome lady and this was her recipe that she would bring at Christmas for cookie swaps. She died a couple of years ago, but I still make these every Christmas. I think of Gidget when I'm making them :-) You can't eat just one.

Ingredients

  • 40
    saltine crackers
  • 1 c
    butter
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 pkg
    (12 oz) semi sweet or milk choc chips (i like semi sweet)
  • 1 c
    chopped pecans

How to Make Gidget's Cracker Candy

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray with Pam. Lay out crackers with sides touching.
  3. Bring butter and sugar to a boil. Boil for 3 min. then pour over crackers. Spread evenly with offset spatula.
  4. Bake at 350 for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Let sit 2 min then spread evenly over crackers. Sprinkle with the chopped nuts.
  6. Separate crackers onto wax paper before cooling. Sweet and Salty, YUMMMMM!
