date surprise cookies

These are a Polish sweet date cookie. I originally got this recipe from my Aunt. I have no idea how old the recipe is. She has long passed,and I like to make different cookies during the holidays. Hope you enjoy them.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 container of dates
  • 1 plus cup chopped walnuts ( depends on how much you stuff the dates with)

How To Make date surprise cookies

  • Step 1
    Pre heat oven to 375. stuff dates with chopped walnuts,and squeeze them closed.
  • Step 2
    cream the shortening with the sugar and vanilla.Add the egg and beat well.Sift the flour,salt,baking soda,and baking powder in to the shortening mixture.add sour cream and mix well.
  • Step 3
    fold dates in to batter., Drop dates with batter by teaspoon fulls on to greased cookie sheet.Making sure there is a date in each spoonful. Bake at 375 10 minutes,or until edges are brown.
