I am not sure how many cookies this makes. I made it last Christmas and mailed some up to my kids as gifts. Just looking at the photo sure brings back good memories of when my mom used to make them. She did a lot of baking and would make these as well as other goodies and give them to friends as gifts. I just made this tonight 12-13-14 and it makes 36 big soft cookies. I put small blobs on the cookie sheet and they spread out.

    butter, softened
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 4 c
    flour
  • 3 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt

How to Make Catherine Batten's Sugar Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Cream butter and sugar
  2. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla
  3. Sift flour, baking soda and salt
  4. Add butter mixture to flour mixture, more flour may be added if dough is too wet.
  5. Drop by spoonful onto cookie sheet. Press down with bottom of floured glass and sprinkle with sugar.
  6. Bake at 350 for about 12 minutes
