Perfect treat to make a part of your holiday traditions with your family! Great served with peppermint hot chocolate; make hot chocolate as directed, add 1 to 2 drops of peppermint or mint extract/flavor, mini marshmallows, and unwrap a regular candy cane to use as a stir stick...very festive and delicious! These tasty treats may be stored up to 2 days at room temp in an air-tight container. To freeze: place layers separated by wax paper in an air-tight container. May freeze for up to 6 weeks. Let stand at room temp for 15 minutes before serving.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 10oz packages marshmallows or 4 cups mini marshmallows or 7oz marshmallow creme
  • 6 cups rice krispies cereal
  • 1 bottle green food coloring
  • 5-6 - unwrapped candy canes, crushed
  • 1-2 teaspoon peppermint or mint extract

How To Make candy-cane rice krispy treats

  • Step 1
In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until almost melted. Add drops of green food coloring until desired shade is reached and continue to stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
  • Step 2
Add peppermint or mint extract; may adjust to desired taste. Add cereal and mix until well coated.
  • Step 3
Using a buttered spatula or wax paper (I sprayed some cooking spray on one side of wax paper and it worked beautifully), evenly press mixture into 13X9X2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Spread crushed candy canes evenly and press into mixture.
  • Step 4
Cool completely. Cut into squares or you may use cookie cutters to get different shapes. Enjoy!
