banana bars w/browned butter frosting
Usually we make banana bread with over-ripe bananas, but this is a great alternative and every bit as delicious - with a whole new taste!

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 - eggs
- 3 or 4 - ripe bananas, mashed
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- FROSTING INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup butter
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 3 tablespoons milk or half and half
How To Make banana bars w/browned butter frosting

Step 1Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease & flour 15" X 10" baking pan with edges.

Step 2Beat together sugar, sour cream, butter and eggs until creamy. Blend in vanilla and bananas.

Step 3Add flour, baking soda & salt. Blend for 1 minute. Stir in chopped walnuts if desired.

Step 4Spread evenly in prepared pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven, cool slightly, and then frost with Browned Butter Frosting (which follows)

Step 5BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING directions:

Step 6Heat butter in large skillet over medium heat until bubbling, turn heat down to simmer and let butter continue bubbling until it turns a delicate brown. Remove from heat immediately

Step 7Add powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Whisk together until smooth (it should be thicker than a glaze, but thinner than frosting).

Step 8Using a spatula, spread frosting over warm bars. Cool and cut to serve. Leftovers may be stored in covered container in refrigerator for up to a week.
