Usually we make banana bread with over-ripe bananas, but this is a great alternative and every bit as delicious - with a whole new taste!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 - eggs
  • 3 or 4 - ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • FROSTING INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons milk or half and half

How To Make banana bars w/browned butter frosting

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease & flour 15" X 10" baking pan with edges.
  • Step 2
    Beat together sugar, sour cream, butter and eggs until creamy. Blend in vanilla and bananas.
  • Step 3
    Add flour, baking soda & salt. Blend for 1 minute. Stir in chopped walnuts if desired.
  • Step 4
    Spread evenly in prepared pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven, cool slightly, and then frost with Browned Butter Frosting (which follows)
  • Step 5
    BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING directions:

    Heat butter in large skillet over medium heat until bubbling, turn heat down to simmer and let butter continue bubbling until it turns a delicate brown. Remove from heat immediately
  • Step 7
    Add powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Whisk together until smooth (it should be thicker than a glaze, but thinner than frosting).
  • Step 8
    Using a spatula, spread frosting over warm bars. Cool and cut to serve. Leftovers may be stored in covered container in refrigerator for up to a week.
