Usually we make banana bread with over-ripe bananas, but this is a great alternative and every bit as delicious - with a whole new taste!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    sour cream
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 2
    eggs
  • 3 or 4
    ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp
    sea salt
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts (optional)
  • FROSTING INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 4 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3 Tbsp
    milk or half and half

How to Make BANANA BARS W/BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease & flour 15" X 10" baking pan with edges.
  2. Beat together sugar, sour cream, butter and eggs until creamy. Blend in vanilla and bananas.
  3. Add flour, baking soda & salt. Blend for 1 minute. Stir in chopped walnuts if desired.
  4. Spread evenly in prepared pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven, cool slightly, and then frost with Browned Butter Frosting (which follows)
  5. BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING directions:
  6. Heat butter in large skillet over medium heat until bubbling, turn heat down to simmer and let butter continue bubbling until it turns a delicate brown. Remove from heat immediately
  7. Add powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Whisk together until smooth (it should be thicker than a glaze, but thinner than frosting).
  8. Using a spatula, spread frosting over warm bars. Cool and cut to serve. Leftovers may be stored in covered container in refrigerator for up to a week.
