My mother made this fudge every year at Christmas time! It is so delicious and rich! This makes 16 (2 in. sqs.). Cut smaller, if you like, for bite size pieces. Any chill time, is not included in prep time.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 can (14 1/2 oz) evaporated milk (1 2/3 cups)
  • 2 packages (6 oz. each) or 1 package (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow creme
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • - butter or margarine, for pans
  • 1 cup walnuts, broken (optional)
  • - walnut halves (optional)

How To Make mrs. claus's fudge from mom (by sharon)

  • Step 1
    Grease an 8 x 8 inch pan and sides of a medium saucepan, with butter.
  • Step 2
    In saucepan, mix and cook sugar, milk, and butter to soft-ball stage (236°F), stirring frequently. (Mixture will be boiling.) After reaching this stage, remove from heat, add chocolate chips, marshmallow crème, vanilla extract, and broken nuts (if using). Beat, until chocolate is melted and blended.
  • Step 3
    Pour into buttered square pan. Immediately score into squares and top each square with a half walnut, if using. Cool and cut into 2 inch square pieces. May require refrigerator for firming. Makes 16 squares. Cut smaller, if you like, for bite size pieces.
