I remember a favorite aunt made something like this when I was 4 years old, I never got her recipe and she's gone now but this one comes close.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 c
    cream or milk
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter or margarine
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 c
    whole almonds, walnuts, or pecans

How to Make Crystallized Nuts

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine sugar, cream, butter, cinnamon, and salt in 2-quart saucepan; mix well. Bring to boil over medium heat.
  2. Place thermometer in mixture. Continue cooking to 244 degrees (firm ball stage) stirring constantly Remove from heat.
  3. Add vanilla and nuts. Continue stirring until candy grains on nuts.
  4. Spread on cookie sheet to cool.
