I loved the Payday candy bar when I was a youngin’ { not so many years ago ha ha ha }. This is my tweaked version of it. These are sticky, sweet and salty with just a hint of the cayenne pepper. Also I might add, this recipe is short 1 cup of the nuts…as I was putting the first layer of nuts on the bottom of the pan, I sneezed and dropped the measuring cup. They say the sign of a good cook is she is messy…then I must be a grrreeeaatttt cook…..giggling!

Ingredients

  • - 1 – 16 ounce jar honey roasted peanuts
  • - 3 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • - scant ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper { not quite a full ¼ teaspoon }
  • - kosher coarse salt { ½ teaspoon and 1 & 1/2 tablespoons }
  • - 1 – 11 ounce bag of caramels

How To Make bar hoppin’ paydaze candy bars that is!

  • Step 1
    Pre heat the oven to 300.
  • Step 2
    Melt the butter, add the salt & cayenne pepper, when the butter is completely melted add the peanuts, mix to coat and cool slightly, divide the peanuts in ½.
  • Step 3
    Spread ½ of the peanuts on a parchment lined pan.
  • Step 4
    Unwrap the caramels and roll them in the salt.
  • Step 5
    Top the nuts with caramels and then the rest of the nuts.
  • Step 6
    Bake at 300 for about 25 minutes. { baking time may vary depending on your oven } if you see the nuts starting to get dark, remove the pan from the oven.
  • Step 7
    Turn the oven off and take the pan out, press slightly on the nuts with the back of a spatula, to set them in the caramels, put them back into the oven and let this cool and then cut into bars.
