Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1/3 c
    cornstarch
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    ground mixed spices
  • 3 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • 1 c
    chopped nuts
  • 1/3 c
    semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ·
    white boiled icing
  • 1 tsp
    lemon juice
  • 16 c
    boiled chestnuts, ground
  • ·
    confectioners' sugar

How to Make Witch Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Cream butter with sugar; add eggs and beat 5 minutes; add milk.
  2. Sift together cornstarch, flour, spices and baking powder; then add to the mixture. Flour raisins and add to mixture with nuts. Turn into a well greased loaf cake pan and bake in a moderate oven about 45 minutes.
  3. Frost cooled cake with boiled icing. Melt chocolate; then add in lemon juice and chestnuts and enough confectioner's sugar to make a paste easily handled.
  4. Roll the paste and cut into Halloween figures, press them into the icing on the sides of the cake.
