- PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 3 - eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup golden raisins, cut up (optional)
- 1/2 cup pecans or almonds, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- WILLIAMSBURG BUTTER FROSTING
- 1/3 cup butter
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar
- 3-4 tablespoons orange juice, fresh
- 2 teaspoons orange zest

Step 1cream the sugar, butter and shortening

Step 2add the eggs, zest and vanilla

Step 3combine the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk

Step 4Lastly, add the nuts and fruit

Step 5Pour into greased, lined and floured rectangular cake pan - you can use round tins if you want (it may take 3 tins if you use round) - also a bundt pan works really well!

Step 6FOR THE FROSTING: Blend butter and sugar. Stir in juice and orange zest. Beat until smooth.
