This recipe is from 1932. Very different and so good. Can also bake in oven.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 - well beaten egg
  • 1/3 cup pet milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon

How To Make top stove coffee cake

  • Step 1
    Grease a heavy 9" pan. Cover the bottom with a layer of heavy brown wrapping paper cut to fit.Grease top layer of paper.
  • Step 2
    Sift together first 5 ingredients into a bowl. Mix together egg, pet milk, water, and oil.
  • Step 3
    Add all at once to flour mixture and quickly mix thoroughly.
  • Step 4
    Pour into pan. Sprinkle with a mixture of 1/4 cup sugar and 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Step 5
    Cover and bake on top of stove over very low heat 30 minutes till firm to the touch. lift out and remove paper while still hot.
  • Step 6
    For oven method omit paper and place uncovered in 375 degrees oven for 25 minutes
