This is probably one of my family's OLDEST recipes. Not sure where it came from, but the recipe card is old, withered, and covered in stains, so you know it's a good one! It's super yummy and can be eaten plain, or spiced up with other ingredients.

Ingredients

butter or crisco

eggs
2 c
sugar
1 tsp
baking soda
4 c
flour
1 tsp
baking powder
2 tsp
vanilla extract
1/2 tsp
salt
5-6 Tbsp
milk

How to Make Southern Tea Cakes

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 350 F. Mix all ingredients together.
  • 2Flour a surface, and roll out dough. It should be thicker than an average cookie. Cut out cookies (using a cup or a circular cookie cutter).
  • 3Bake for approximately 10 minutes. Periodically check on the cookies as they bake, and get them out before they brown.
