This is probably one of my family's OLDEST recipes. Not sure where it came from, but the recipe card is old, withered, and covered in stains, so you know it's a good one! It's super yummy and can be eaten plain, or spiced up with other ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    butter or crisco
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 4 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 5-6 Tbsp
    milk

How to Make Southern Tea Cakes

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Mix all ingredients together.
  2. Flour a surface, and roll out dough. It should be thicker than an average cookie. Cut out cookies (using a cup or a circular cookie cutter).
  3. Bake for approximately 10 minutes. Periodically check on the cookies as they bake, and get them out before they brown.
