old fashioned chewy cake
I found this recipe when we were first married 48 yrs ago. My family had always loved it. I hadn't made it now for several years but came across it again a couple of months ago and we still love it just as much!

Ingredients
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup dates, chopped
- 1/2 cup dried apricots, chopped
- 1 cup hot water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons butter, cold
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves or allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup white sugar
How To Make old fashioned chewy cake

Step 1In a large saucepan combine dried fruits, sugar, hot water, and butter. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Cool.

Step 2Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves or allspice, salt. Stir into cooled boiled mixture.

Step 3Bake in 8X8 greased pan at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Cool before cutting.

Step 4You could frost it, but we've always liked it just plain.
