I made this version of frosting to go with Lisa Glass's Black Magic Cake. Chocolate on chocolate is a bit much for me, so I decided to tinker with her frosting recipe a little and come up with a Mocha version.

Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons butter, softened (1 stick)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons coffee, strong
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa, unsweetened

How To Make mocha frosting

  • Step 1
    Put butter, vanilla, cocoa powder and coffee into a bowl, then slowly add the powdered sugar. Mix until completely blended.
  • Step 2
    Makes enough frosting for a nine inch two layer or a 9x13 cake.
  • Step 3
    (prep time is simply however long it takes a stick of butter to soften) ;)
