I am a chocolate lover, so I'm always on the hunt for great dessert recipes like this yummy one.

I found this little ditty in an old recipe book that I picked up at a garage sale.

Who can resist this combination....chocolate cake, ice cream and hot fudge sauce!

  • 1 pkg
    (11.5-ozs) milk chocolate chips
  • 1/3 c
    butter, cubed
  • 4
    eggs, separated
  • 1/3 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 c
  • 1/2 c
    slivered almonds

  • 1/2 c
  • 1/2 c
    baking cocoa
  • 1/2 c
    heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 c
    semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 c
    butter, cubed
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • ·
    vanilla ice cream

How to Make Hot Fudge Sundae Cake


  1. In a heavy saucepan, melt milk chocolate chips and butter over low heat. Cool slightly. Whisk in egg yolks. Add flour just until combined.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold into chocolate mixture until blended. Fold in almonds.
  3. Pour into a greased 10" pie plate or quiche dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
  4. FOR SAUCE: Combine sugar, cocoa and cream. Add semisweet chips and butter. Cook and stir over low heat until chips and butter are melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla.
  5. Cut cake into wedges; top with ice cream. Drizzle with warm sauce.
