easy gingerbread cake

I found this recipe quite by accident and it has become a favorite in my home.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup hot water

How To Make easy gingerbread cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. (depending on your oven.)
  • Step 2
    Grease & flour a 9" square pan.
  • Step 3
    In a large size bow, cream together the sugar & butter.
  • Step 4
    Beat in the egg, & mix in the molasses.
  • Step 5
    In a medium size bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda,salt, cinnamon, ginger & cloves.
  • Step 6
    Blend into the creamed mixture.
  • Step 7
    Stir in the hot water. Pour into prepared pan.
  • Step 8
    Bake for 1 hour in preheated oven, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan before serving.
