  • 2/3 c
    vegetable oil
  • 2 c
    flour, all purpose
  • 1 3/4 c
  • 1/2 c
    cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1 Tbsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 c
    coffee (hot brewed)

  • 1 c
  • 1/2 c
  • 6 Tbsp
  • 12 oz
    semi sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1-2 tsp
    hot coffee if needed for consistency
  • 1 1/2 c
    pecan halves toasted
  • 3/4 c
    caramel ice cream topping (hersheys -my favorite)
  • 3
    wooden skewers to hold cake together if needed

How to Make Chocolate Turtle Cake


  1. Grease 3 9inch cake pans
    Line with parchment paper
    Grease the paper and dust with cocoa powder
  2. In a small bowl combine: egg, oil, buttermilk
  3. In a large mixing bowl combine: flour,sugar,cocoa powder,baking soda, salt
  4. Gradually mix buttermilk mixture to flour mixture until combined
  5. Gradually beat in hot coffee
  6. Pour batter into prepared pans evenly
  7. Bake on 350 and cool in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes.
    Loosen sides from pans and invert cakes on racks,
    Peel off paper and cool completely
  8. ICING:
    In a small saucepan combine sugar, milk,butter.
    Bring to a boil stirring constantly
  9. Remove from heat and add chocolate morsels. Whisk until smooth.
    Add 1-2 tsp hot coffee if it's too thick to ice cake smoothly.
  10. makes 1 1/2 cups of icing
