cocoa powder unsweetened
semi sweet chocolate morsels
hot coffee if needed for consistency
pecan halves toasted
caramel ice cream topping (hersheys -my favorite)
wooden skewers to hold cake together if needed
How to Make Chocolate Turtle Cake
1Grease 3 9inch cake pans
Line with parchment paper
Grease the paper and dust with cocoa powder
2In a small bowl combine: egg, oil, buttermilk
3In a large mixing bowl combine: flour,sugar,cocoa powder,baking soda, salt
4Gradually mix buttermilk mixture to flour mixture until combined
5Gradually beat in hot coffee
6Pour batter into prepared pans evenly
7Bake on 350 and cool in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes.
Loosen sides from pans and invert cakes on racks,
Peel off paper and cool completely
In a small saucepan combine sugar, milk,butter.
Bring to a boil stirring constantly
9Remove from heat and add chocolate morsels. Whisk until smooth.
Add 1-2 tsp hot coffee if it's too thick to ice cake smoothly.
10makes 1 1/2 cups of icing
