My mother served this very moist and delicious cake at her recent card party. Even if you are not a fan of dates, you would like this cake as there is just a subtle hint of dates.

  • 1 c
    dates, finely chopped
  • 1 1/4 c
    boiling water
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
  • 1 c
  • 2
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 1/4 c
  • 3 Tbsp
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 c
    chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c
    chopped nuts

How to Make Blind Date Cake - Steph


  1. Mix the dates with the 1 1/4 cup boiling water; let cool. Stir in the 1 tsp. baking soda and set aside.
  2. Cream together 1/2 c. butter, 1 c. sugar, 2 eggs, and 1 tsp. vanilla until creamy.
  3. Combine 1 1/4 c. flour, 3 T. cocoa, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Blend to creamed mixture; stir in date mixtures.
  4. Put in 9 x 13" greased pan and sprinkle on top, the following: 1 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1 c. chocolate chips, and 1/2 c. chopped nuts.
  5. Bake at 325 degrees for 35 minutes. ENJOY!
