1Mix the dates with the 1 1/4 cup boiling water; let cool. Stir in the 1 tsp. baking soda and set aside.
2Cream together 1/2 c. butter, 1 c. sugar, 2 eggs, and 1 tsp. vanilla until creamy.
3Combine 1 1/4 c. flour, 3 T. cocoa, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Blend to creamed mixture; stir in date mixtures.
4Put in 9 x 13" greased pan and sprinkle on top, the following: 1 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1 c. chocolate chips, and 1/2 c. chopped nuts.
5Bake at 325 degrees for 35 minutes. ENJOY!
